{"id":24605,"date":"2024-07-04T11:42:52","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T09:42:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/waag-azhar.org\/en\/?p=24605"},"modified":"2024-07-04T11:42:54","modified_gmt":"2024-07-04T09:42:54","slug":"malaysian-king-receives-grand-imam-of-al-azhar-and-they-discuss-ways-to-benefit-from-al-azhars-expertise-in-combating-extremism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/waag-azhar.org\/en\/24605\/","title":{"rendered":"Malaysian King receives Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and they \u200ediscuss ways to benefit from Al-Azhar\u2019s expertise in combating \u200eextremism"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sultan Iskandar to Grand Imam At-Tayyeb: I interrupted my \u200evisit to Johor to welcome you today<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sultan Iskandar asks Grand Imam At-Tayyeb to increase the \u200enumber of Al-Azhar envoys to Malaysia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sultan Iskandar: Al-Azhar graduates enjoy the trust of our \u200ecountry, and we have noticed a huge difference between them \u200eand those who receive religious education from other \u200einstitutions.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grand Imam At-Tayyeb praises the Malaysian model in \u200edevelopment, ethics, and pluralism<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This morning, Thursday, at the Royal Palace in Kuala Lumpur, \u200eHM Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, King of Malaysia, received HE \u200eProf. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif \u200eand MCE Chairman, to discuss ways for Malaysia to benefit \u200efrom Al-Azhar\u2019s expertise in combating extremism.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of the meeting, HM Sultan Iskandar \u200ewelcomed the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar to \u201chis second \u200ecountry\u201d, Malaysia, stressing his great appreciation for Grand \u200eImam At-Tayyeb\u2019s considerable global efforts to establish the \u200evalues of dialogue and coexistence. Sultan Iskandar indicated \u200ethat he had decided to cut short his tour to Johor to receive \u200eGrand Imam At-Tayyeb, welcome him, and discuss with him \u200eways to boost joint efforts with the long-standing Al-Azhar \u200einstitution.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sultan Iskandar confirmed that Malaysia, its leadership and \u200epeople, trust, love, and affiliate with Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif. This, \u200ehe added, drives many Malaysian families to send their \u200echildren to study Islamic sciences at Al-Azhar, declaring: \u201cI was \u200ehonored to visit Al-Azhar three times. Currently, 700 students \u200efrom Johor, to which I belong, are fortunate to be enrolled in \u200eAl-Azhar. We encourage more students to enroll in Al-Azhar, \u200eas we have found a huge difference in the way of thinking, \u200ebehavior, and societal influence between students graduating \u200efrom Al-Azhar and their peers graduating from other \u200einstitutions.\u201d\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sultan Iskandar asked Grand Imam At-Tayyeb to increase the \u200enumber of Al-Azhar envoys in various Malaysian states, offer \u200emore educational opportunities to Malaysian students to join \u200eAl-Azhar University and benefit from Al-Azhar\u2019s extensive \u200eexperience in the areas of combating extremism and \u200eradicalism, by holding a dialogue conference in Malaysia in \u200ewhich Al-Azhar scholars participate to clarify to Malaysian \u200eyouth the correct Islamic approach on various contemporary \u200eissues, especially on promoting coexistence and denouncing \u200eintolerance and hatred.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For his part, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar congratulated Sultan \u200eIskandar on His Majesty\u2019s inauguration as King of Malaysia, \u200epraying to Allah Almighty that Malaysia would enjoy more \u200eelevation and progress during his reign. He expressed his \u200epleasure to visit Malaysia for the first time since he assumed \u200ethe Sheikhdom of Al-Azhar, and that he found in Malaysia a \u200etrue model of a Muslim state capable of achieving sustainable \u200eprogress and prosperity. He added that Al-Azhar is proud of its \u200efirm historical relations with Malaysia, considering Malaysian \u200estudents were a pivotal factor in forming and developing such \u200erelations.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grand Imam At-Tayyeb affirmed Al-Azhar\u2019s readiness to \u200eincrease the number of Al-Azhar envoys to Malaysia, increase \u200escholarships for Malaysian students at Al-Azhar University, \u200ehost Malaysian Imams to train in Al-Azhar International \u200eAcademy for Training Imams and Preachers and initiate \u200ecooperation with Malaysia in a way that meets the needs of \u200eMalaysian society and addresses its internal challenges.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grand Imam At-Tayyeb referred to the pioneering experiences \u200eof Al-Azhar and the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE) in \u200econsolidating the values of dialogue and promoting the \u200eculture of coexistence, brotherhood, and positive integration, \u200ewhich culminated in the cosigning of the Human Fraternity \u200eDocument with His Holiness Pope Francis, Pope of the \u200eCatholic Church, in 2019. He maintained that such an \u200einitiative revived the relations between Al-Azhar and the \u200eVatican, together with the Egyptian Family House project, the \u200einitiative launched by Al-Azhar and the Egyptian churches.
