Al-Azhar Graduates in India: Islam is Characterized by Moderation

WOAG Branch in India organized a religious lecture in Hyderabad under the title of: “Holding on to Moderation“, with the participation of 30 attendees. This comes in the framework of the activity carried out by the branch to confront violent and extremist ideologies. Mr. Mohammad Khaled al-Azhari, a member of WOAG branch in India, said that Islam is distinguished with moderation and its ability to assimilate all peoples and tribes in a way that preserves the fundamentals and keeps up with the variables to ensure avoiding conflicts. A good example of this is al-Azhar moderate approach that was capable, throughout centuries, to coexist and accommodate all circumstances. Al-Azhari stressed that moderation is the main fundament ever since Allah Almighty sent His messengers with the righteous faith. He added that one of the virtues of Islam is that it calls for moderation in carrying out judgments and assignments; this is evident in the righteous religious texts that need no interpretation or explanation, as Allah Almighty says: “Allah desires ease for you, and desires not hardship for you” [Q:2:185]. He stressed that the approach Quran stipulated for running the human life is based upon the moderation, denouncing extremism and warning Muslims against being dragged to them, as Allah Almighty says: “Thus, We appointed you a midmost community that you might be witnesses to the people; and that the Messenger might be a witness to you” [Q:2:143].
