The World Organization for Al-Azhar Graduates Branch in India delivered a lecture entitled “Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) mercy while dealing with Muslims and Non-Muslims”. It is worth mentioning that this lecture is part of the efforts exerted by the Organization to confront extremist thoughts, correct misconceptions and spread moderate approach.
Prof. Muhammad Shehab Ad-Deen Al-Azhari, Secretary General of the Branch, pointed to the fact that Islam gave due care to minute details that regulate relations between Muslims and non-Muslims and laid foundations of treating non-Muslims. For example, it forbad arguing with them about their religion in order to avoid hatred, sectarianism and enmity among people. In addition, it ordered Muslims to treat them well and fairly following the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) with regards to dealing with non-Muslims since his conduct with Muslims and non-Muslims was the best and exemplary. He also stressed that although Islam is the religion of truth it did not compel anyone to embrace it. It has nothing to do with violence and compulsion but the religion of tolerance and mercy.
