WOAG branch in Central Africa convened a lecture under the title of “The Concept of Citizenship” in al-Atiq Mosque in the capital Bangui, and attended by 20 participants. This is part of a series of lectures organized by the branch in different cities in Central Africa to confront the extremist thinking and correct the misconceptions.
Sheikh Ahamd Barma Saeed, member of the branch stressed that the concept of citizenship reflects the political, social, religious and the human rights statuses of the citizens. Indeed, the good citizen would never seek to attain his/her desires, ambitions and wishes at the expense of the public interest, such as those monopolizing commodity or bending the law to attain personal interests. He pointed out as well that Islam stresses national affiliation, urging the attendees to put the nation’s interests before theirs that may cause wars and conflicts. Additionally, he called upon imams and preachers to adhere to the Islamic tolerant fundaments that call for unity and reject divisions.
