Dean of Usul al-Din to Libyan Imams: The Elements of Aqida are Simple and Agree with Common Sense

Dr. Abdullah Azzab, Professor of Aqida and Philosophy and Dean of Usul al-Din Faculty, al-Azhar University, said that Aqida in Quran and Sunnah is simple and does not need to get complicated. The most distinguished characteristic of Islamic Aqida is that it agrees with the human common sense; indeed, al-Salaf are those who lived in the first three centuries of Hijra, and their approach is that they believed in all what is mentioned in Quran and Sunnah, since these texts are absolute.

This came during the lecture under the title of “Contemporary Intellectual Issues” convened during the 13th training course for 45 Libyan Imams and preachers in WOAG headquarters in Cairo, in cooperation with Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers (AIATIP), in Sheikh Zayed Center for Teaching Arabic Language.

Dr. Azzab clarified the approaches of all factions concerning the issues of Aqida, stressing the importance of moderate thinking to make a balance between exaggeration and excessiveness. Dr. Azzab gave different examples to clarify the corruption of the approaches that literally interpret the holy texts, which definitely lead to distorting the image of Islam, falsely show a contradiction in it, resulting in committing hate crimes, which definitely Islam denounces. Dr. Azzab concluded the lecture by answering the questions of the trainees concerning defining the contemporary concepts and approaches. He stressed that some of these approaches and trends distort the image of Islam, giving illustrative examples to demonstrate the falsity of these claims.
