Al-Azhar Graduates in Somalia: Islam Honored Women and Granted them High Status

The World Organization for Al-Azhar Graduates Branch in Somalia delivered a lecture entitled “The role of women in children’s upbringing”. It is worth mentioning that this lecture is part of the efforts exerted by the Organization to confront extremist thoughts, correct misconceptions and spread moderate approach.

Mr. Ahmad Ali Nour, Member of the Organization’s Branch, pointed to the leading role played by women in societies that is, unfortunately, sometimes marginalized in some communities due to customs and traditions that contradict with human nature as well as divine laws. He also clarified that extremists misinterpret some Quranic verses and Prophetic Hadiths to deliberately marginalize the role of women; the matter that contradicts with teachings of Islam that honored women and granted them high status since they are regarded the cornerstone of families who are responsible for the upbringing of children.
