The Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany issued its annual report for the year 2022 on the number of attacks on masjids in Germany. The report stated that 2022 witnessed 62 attacks on masjids compared to 54 attacks in 2021; this represents a 14% increase in attacks on masjids. The report also stated that most of these attacks were carried out by far-right individuals or organizations.
In addition, the Central Council of Muslims in Germany pointed to the fact that the number stated in this report does not reflect the actual number, as there are unreported attacks. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremists had previously issued several reports highlighting the increase of far-right assaults and attacks on Muslims and their sanctities as well as hate speeches. In this regard, the Observatory stressed that combating Islamophobia requires taking more tough and repressive measures against the Far-right as well as consolidating efforts for promoting ideologies of tolerance and peaceful coexistence within communities.
