For the First Time: Al-Azhar Hosts International Students for a Collective Iftar to Mark Ashoura Day, With Al-Azhar Deputy in Attendance

Under the generous care of His Eminence, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, and with the attendance of Prof. Mohammad ad-Dweny, al-Azhar Deputy, al-Azhar organized a large collective Iftar marking Ashoura Day for international students from all over the world. The Iftar took place in the courtyard of al-Azhar Mosque. It is planned to continue for three days, offering 12,000 Iftar meals to international students over the course of the three days.

Prof. Mohammad ad-Dweny actively participated in the Iftar, overseeing the preparations and engaging with the students to understand their needs and suggestions. He also commended the organizers for their efforts to make the event successful.

Furthermore, Prof. ad-Dweny emphasized that al-Azhar supports and cares for international students worldwide, recognizing their role in propagating knowledge and promoting tolerant Islamic values globally. He noted that organizing such events enhances al-Azhar’s status as a global academic and cultural beacon, pioneering the spread of tolerant Islamic teachings and promoting dialog between cultures.

Notably, Al-Azhar is organizing this collective Iftar for international students for the first time to mark Ashoura Day. Al-Azhar plans to offer 12,000 meals over the three days of the event, distributing 3,000 meals on Monday, 6,000 meals on Tuesday, and 3,000 meals on Wednesday. This initiative reflects al-Azhar’s humanitarian role in serving and caring for its international students, who are guests in Egypt.
