Al-Azhar: Offending Christ or Any Prophet is an Act of Extremism and Barbarism
Al-Azhar Warns Against the Dangers of Using Global Events to Normalize Religious Offenses and Promote Homosexuality and Transgenderism
Al-Azhar ash-Sharif condemned the scenes from the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, which sparked global outrage. These scenes depicted Christ (PBUH) in a way that disrespected his noble character and the high status of his prophecy. This barbaric portrayal shows a lack of respect for the followers of religion, morality, and high human values.
Additionally, al-Azhar reaffirms its constant rejection of any attempts to harm any of Allah’s Prophets. The prophets and messengers are the chosen ones among Allah’s creation, selected and favored over all others to carry the message of goodness to the world. Al-Azhar, along with nearly two billion Muslims, believes that Jesus (PBUH), is a messenger of Allah, as stated in the Quran: “And His Word that He had delivered to Maryam, and a spirit from Him.” [Q. 4: 171] And Allah referred to him in the Holy Quran: “Honored shall he be in this world, and the Hereafter, and of those brought close.” [Q. 3: 45] Allah considered him one of the messengers with firm resolve. Additionally, Muslims believe that offending him (PBUH) or any other prophet (peace be upon them) disgraces those who perpetrate or accept such a heinous offense.
Al-Azhar warns the world against using global events to normalize offenses against religions and promote socially destructive and shameful diseases, such as homosexuality and transgenderism. Furthermore, al-Azhar emphasizes the necessity of unity against this deviant trend, which aims to marginalize religion and idolize sexual arousal, leading to the spread of health and moral diseases. This trend imposes a lifestyle that contradicts healthy human nature and desperately seeks to normalize it by all possible means.
