Prof. Abbas Shouman, President of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates (WOAG) and Secretary General of the Council of Senior Scholars, received Arun Boonchom, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand. The meeting was attended by Major General Wael Bekhit, WOAG Vice-President and Prof. Abdul Dayyem Nosseir, WOAG Secretary General and Consultant of the Grand Imam of al-Azhar.
Prof. Shouman welcomed the Thai delegation, stating that this visit is signifies the continuous communication between al-Azhar institution and its sons all over the Islamic world. Further, Prof. Shouman highlighted the Grand Imam’s recent visit to Thailand and meeting with senior officials there. He stressed that the huge reception and welcoming the Grand Imam received there indicates the great status al-Azhar institution has in the hearts of Thai people.
In the same vein, Prof. Shouman showcased the efforts exerted by His Eminence the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, in establishing the Organization and its branches worldwide, to act as communication channels with al-Azhar’s sons worldwide.
Furthermore, WOAG President underlined the training courses convened by the Organization targeting imams and preachers from all over the world, to help in spreading al-Azhar moderate thinking and combating the misconceptions and extremism.
During the meeting, Prof. Shouman transmitted the greetings of His Eminence Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, to Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, his delegation and the brotherly Thai people.
On his part, Arun Boonchom, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, said that there is no village in Thailand that does not have someone who graduated from al-Azhar, which signifies the great status al-Azhar al-Sharif enjoys in Thailand. He added that there are many of Thais who wish to join al-Azhar institution as being the most prominent destination to receive knowledge.
The meeting was concluded by presenting the Organization’s shield to Sheikhul Islam of Thailand. On his part, Arun Boonchom, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, expressed his thanks and gratitude to WOAG and its officials for the warm reception he and his delegation received in Egypt and al-Azhar al-Sharif.
