Secretary General of Dar al-Fatwa in Australia Visits al-Azhar Graduates to Discuss Ways of Cooperation between the Two Institutions in Educational, Cultural & Scientific Fields

Prof. Abbas Shouman, President of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates and Secretary General of al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars, received Dr. Salim Alwan al-Husseini, Secretary-General of Dar al-Fatwa, the Supreme Islamic Council of Australia, at the Organization’s Headquarters in Cairo. The visit came to discuss ways of cooperation between the two institutions in educational, cultural and scientific fields.

During the meeting, Prof. Abbas Shouman stressed that al-Azhar ash-Sharif and all of its tributaries, especially the Organization, are very ready to provide all sorts of support to serve all Muslims worldwide and to hone the scientific and preaching efforts of al-Azhar significant scholars who are specialized in training imams and preachers. His Eminence added that the Organization will help in facilitating the enrollment of Australian Muslim students in scholarships to study at al-Azhar institutes and University, in addition to providing them with all books, references and publications issued by the Organization, on refuting the extremist thinking.

On his part, Dr. Salim Alwan stressed the adherence of Dar al-Fatwa in Australia to al-Azhar methodology as the supreme reference for Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaa’a, due to its moderate approach that protects the youth from joining violent and intolerant groups. He pointed out that Australia has about 700 thousand Muslims, where Dar al-Fatwa sponsors 35 institutions and foundations serving Muslims there. Additionally, Dar al-Fatwa has the Islamic radio through which outstanding activities are broadcasted to introduce Islam via al-Azhar methodology and perspective.
