Prof. Abbas Shouman, President of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates and the Secretary General of al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars gave a lecture to the international students at the Organization’s headquarters under the title of: “The Role of Islamic Fiqh in Regulating Communities”.
In his word, Prof. Shouman stated that the Islamic Fiqh plays a significant role in building the Muslim individual, since a human being cannot live righteously within a community without being in knowledge of what is permissible and what is forbidden, at least on personal level. He stressed that every individual should recognize the importance of Fiqh in regulating his/her relation with the whole society.
In the same vein, His Eminence added that regulating an individual’s relations in Fiqh lies in two categories: the worships category, including all issues that matters a Muslim in his/her relation with Allah Almighty from purity to Hajj. The second category is concerned with the dealings, to arrange the individual’s relation with the whole society by clarifying the rights and the duties. His Eminence concluded the lecture advising the students to: “not only keep it up gaining knowledge, but also to invest it for the benefit of yours and your societies. That is the greatest outcome, to gather both the scientific knowledge and practical application. As such, we advise you to take the full chance to receive education; if you can do so, you will be the best ambassadors of al-Azhar ash-Sharif in your countries”.
