The World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates in India held a lecture titled “Islam: A Religion of Moderation and Balance,” delivered by Prof. Mohammad Shahabuddeen al-Azhari, Secretary General of the branch and Head of al-Rahmaniya School in Suffol, Darbahneh, Bihar.
Al-Azhari highlighted in his speech that moderation is a defining feature that sets Islam apart from other rituals and beliefs. Indeed, this quality underpins Islam’s approach across all its aspects serving as its guiding principle since Allah sent the prophets with the religion of truth—from Noah (PBUH) to the master of the messengers, Prophet Mohammad ibn Abdullah (PBUH). True Muslims are, thus, the moderate nation.
Furthermore, he explained that moderation among Muslims represents the straight path, guidance, and benevolence. He added that the approach the Holy Quran brings to human life is rooted in moderation in everything it advocates, embodying just judgment. Adhering to this path, he emphasized, will lead to salvation in this world and the Hereafter.
He pointed out that moderation influences the provisions of religion and is present in every verse, emphasizing a call for balance and a rejection of extremism or exaggeration in interactions with others. This approach ensures the message is conveyed effectively and bears positive results without inciting hatred or resentment. For over a thousand years, al-Azhar has advocated for this path, stressing the importance of moderation and balance while avoiding extremism and excess.
