The World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates branch in India held an awareness gathering for students entitled “Takfiri Tendencies”, where Abdul Ahad al-Azhari, Secretary of the branch office in Bihar State, India and a professor of Hadith and Literature at Dar al-Hikma at Rahmaniya University, Khangah Munger, Bihar, India, delivered a lecture.
He emphasized that al-Azhar has been keen on renewing Islamic sciences for over a thousand years, carrying the banner of moderation that benefits people and achieves their interests, without denying religious fundamentals – a difficult task requiring exceptional intellectual scholars, which al-Azhar has been blessed with throughout this period.
He added that the Grand Imam is one of the masters of the art of renewal. Among his most prominent efforts in this regard is developing al-Azhar’s curricula to suit the age, balancing the authenticity of the text with contemporary application in people’s lives. This was done by establishing the “High Committee for Educational Reform” and the “Curriculum Design and Development Committee”, which comprises specialized scholars and educational experts. It is also worth noting that al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars has restored its pioneering role in renewing religious discourse and preserving Islamic constants in many social and cultural issues, through research, publications, and intellectual youth forums.
