“Al-Azhar Graduates” in Nigeria Continues the Activities of “Azhari Flashes”

In line with al-Azhar ash-Sharif’s directives to promote moderation, the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates in Nigeria organized an awareness campaign titled Azhari Flashes. As part of this initiative, a reading from the book The Good Saying by His Eminence, the Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, was presented during a lecture titled ‘The Concept of Jihad in the Quran and Sunnah’. The lecture, delivered in Arabic, took place at the Babagna School for Islamic Studies for Girls in Maiduguri, Nigeria, with an audience of 40 people.

During the lecture, Mohammad Tijani Mohammad, a member of the branch, emphasized that the concept of jihad in Shariah does not signify killing or shedding blood. Instead, it refers to exerting effort in pursuit of a goal, whether it be acquiring wealth or seeking knowledge. He further clarified that legitimate jihad, as outlined in the Quran and Sunnah, is governed by specific conditions and controls that must be met before it can be undertaken. He also stressed the responsibility of preachers and Imams to guide young people, helping them avoid the dangers of extremism and ensuring they do not fall victim to takfiri ideologies.
