Ibrahim Kony, a member of the Mali branch of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates, participated in a television program on the national channel ORTM1 titled “Religious Fatwas and the Imperative of Renewal.”
During the program, he highlighted the presence of individuals who spread extremist ideas within religious circles due to their lack of knowledge of the correct interpretation of religious texts. He added that the challenges surrounding fatwas in contemporary reality and their future role necessitate providing reliable sources for Imams to promote social harmony and foster a cohesive society. Moreover, he emphasized that Mali has been subjected to terrorist attacks due to fatwas that are not based on a correct understanding of the Quran and Sunnah.
