The World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates branch in Bangladesh convened an awareness seminar under the title of “The Phenomena of Social Deviance in the Islamic Society and How to Treat it… An Islamic Perspective” at Mizan al-Salam Academic Center. The seminar was lectured by a number of the branch’s members, explaining that the foundation of human nature is righteousness not deviation, goodness not corruption. Indeed, a human being, naturally, tends to righteousness in his/her behavior, since deviation contradicts both nature and common sense.
Additionally, the lecturers stressed that reforming society is not solely the scholars’ responsibility, but rather the responsibility of all members of society: religious scholars, educators, professors, employees and academics. The reforming mission does not target the deviants only, but also embraces the righteous ones to encourage them and urge them to influence others rather than being influenced.
