The Central African branch of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates organized a lecture for women titled ‘The Role of Women in Islamic Society’ in Bangui, the capital city. Approximately 100 women attended the event. During the lecture, Ahmad Barma Said, a branch member, emphasized that Islam accords great attention to women, honoring them and holding them in high esteem.
He added that women in Islam are partners with men in shouldering the responsibilities of life. Allah Almighty has entrusted them, alongside men, with the duty of serving as vicegerents on earth, raising children on the path of righteousness, and granting them an equal degree of honor and reverence with men.
He explained that Muslims believe Islam restored women’s rights after they had suffered during the era of ignorance, losing even their most basic right—the right to life. Furthermore, Islamic Shariah acknowledges the differences between males and females, both physical and psychological. Based on these distinctions, Islam established the frameworks that govern the relationships between men and women, defining their respective rights and duties toward one another.
