It Calls for the Protection of Refugees and Migrants from ‘White Terrorism’
Al-Azhar strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted innocent people at an adult educational center in Orebro, Sweden. The attack claimed 11 lives and left several others injured. Al-Azhar extended its condolences to the Kingdom of Sweden, its people, and the victims’ families, expressing solidarity in the face of this heinous act of terrorism.
Furthermore, al-Azhar warned of the alarming rise of ‘white nationalist’ terrorism and right-wing extremism in Europe and America, emphasizing that they pose a global threat requiring urgent international action. It called on global media platforms to maintain objectivity in reporting such terrorist attacks and to refrain from justifications that frame them as ‘individual acts’ or ‘shooting incidents’ when the perpetrator is non-Muslim, while swiftly labeling attacks as ‘terrorism’ when linked to Islam. This media bias perpetuates violence and provides ‘white terrorism’ groups with a shield to spread their extremist ideologies without accountability or deterrence.
