A Member of Al-Azhar Graduates in Chad: Exaggeration and Extremism are Two Sides of the Same Coin

The World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates’ branch in Chad held a lecture titled ‘Exaggeration in Religion’ at Abu Bakr Mosque in the capital, N’Djamena. Sheikh Awad Othman Ibrahim, a member of the organization’s Chad branch, delivered the lecture, explaining that, in language, exaggeration refers to excessive strictness in interpreting the truth. He emphasized that the Holy Quran prohibits exaggeration and hyperbole in worship to prevent harm to the practitioner.

He added that exaggeration and extremism are two sides of the same coin. Additionally, Islam emphasizes moderation and balance while rejecting all forms of extremism. He also pointed out that extremist groups distort the meanings of certain Quranic verses and interpret religious texts rigidly, which contradicts the overall spirit of Shariah and its fundamental objectives.

He highlighted that these groups promote exaggeration, violence, and religious extremism, which is far from the tolerance of the Islamic religion.
