Al-Azhar Graduates in Central Africa: Walaa’ and Baraa’ Should Exist in the System of Muslim Coexistence with Others

WOAG branch in central Africa convened a lecture under the title of “The Issue of Walaa’ and Baraa’… its Concept and Origin“, in Noor al-Sheikh Ibrahim Younis mosque, with the participation of 50 attendees. This lecture came within the activity carried out by the Organization and its branches abroad to confront the extremist thinking, correct the misconceptions and spread moderation.

Sheikh Hassan Mohmmad Saleh, member of WOAG Central Africa, explained that Walaa’ (Loyalty) means supporting your homeland and identity, while Baraa’ (Disavow) means renouncing the enemy who seeks to destruct your identity, safety and homeland. Hence, Walaa’ and Baraa’ should exist in the system of Muslim coexistence with others. He also stressed the extremists’ view of Walaa’ and Baraa’, and how they exploit the religious texts in Quran and Sunnah, without rendering to their true interpretations, and inventing heresies that have nothing to do with Salaf; thus, those extremists accuse fellow Muslims, who do not acknowledge their corrupted ideology, with disbelief (Takfir). Sheikh Hassan highlighted that a Muslim should preserve his/her Islamic identity, without prejudice to peaceful coexistence among people; this is what al-Walaa’ wal Baraa’ means.
