Al-Azhar Role in Protecting Human Rights as Stipulated in Islam… A Seminar by al-Azhar Graduates in Asyut

WOAG Asyut organized a seminar under the title of “Al-Azhar Role in Protecting Human Rights as Stipulated in Islam” in the Islamic Faculty for girls in Asyut. This seminar came within the role carried out by the Organization and its local branches to confront the extremist thinking, correct the misconceptions and spread moderation.

 Dr. Amal Abdul Qader, member of WOAG and the seminar’s moderator, gave a word on the history of al-Azhar since  its establishment in 970 AD during the Fatimid state, then teaching jurisprudence and legal sciences according to Sunni school, then establishing legal faculties till al-Azhar has become a true university in the contemporary sense. Dr. Amal also tackled al-Azhar Sheikhdom, al-Azhar grand imams and gave a detailed demonstration on Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand imam of al-Azhar, his achievements and the role of al-Azhar Observatory in defending Islam.

Dr. Kamal al-Haddad clarified the role of al-Azhar in the Islamic and African worlds, its efforts to maintain the moderate approach and its interest in human rights and especially women rights.

Dr. Madyha Mohammad Khalil discussed al-Azhar care for human rights including parents’ rights, spouses’ rights, children’s rights, neighbors” rights as well as social rights such justice and equality that preserve order in society, then freedom of expression and finally the rights of private properties.
