What is the ruling for someone unable to fast due to old age or disability?

Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon our master and messenger of Allah, and upon his family, companions, and those who follow him.

If an elderly man – or an old woman – struggles with fasting, finds it extremely difficult, and is unable to fast due to old age, and is incapable of making up for the missed fasts, then it is permissible for them to break their fast and feed a poor person for each day. Allah says: “And for those who can do it, a redemption: the feeding of a poor man.” [Q. 2:184] It means those who can fast.

And Allah knows best. May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Master Mohammad
and all his family and companions. All praise and thanks be to the Lord of the worlds.
