WOAG Branch in Nigeria launched “The International Initiative to Renew Religious Discourse“. In such context, the Branch convened several lectures, among them “Moderation in Islam” given in local language in Kwara State. The lecture was given by Abu Bakr Mohammad Jibril, one of the participants in Nigerian Imams’ training course, organized at WOAG headquarters in Cairo in 2019 and member of WOAG branch in Nigeria.
During the lecture, the lecturer clarified the message of al-Azhar institution and the role it plays to promote the moderation of Islam, refuting the extremist ideas and establishing the concept of citizenship and peaceful coexistence.
In the same vein, the lecturer pointed out that Islam is not a religion of violence and terrorism; however, it promotes moderation in all aspects of life. He stressed that the terrorist and extremist events as well as the emerge of extremist groups that claim affiliation to Islam and plaguing the Islamic nation at the meantime, are due to the misconceptions about Islam and deserting the Islamic moderate way of thinking.
