Prof. Mokhtar Mohsen, the Secretary of Fatwa at the Egyptian Dar al-Iftaa said that Islam warns of Takfir and preventsit because it results in corruption, bloodshed, and defilement, while Islam came as a mercy for all creations. Moreover, he prayed to Allah to protect souls, property, and honors.
This came at a symposium entitled “Dangers of Declaring Muslims as Infidels” in the context of the training course entitled “Correcting the Misconceptions for International Students” at the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates.
It is worth mentioning that Prof. Mokhtar asserted that the extremist groups do not want to apply the rule of Shariah, pointing out that the Prophet (PBUH) warned against the sedition of Takfir because of its severe impact on the division of the nation and disruption of its power, in addition to killing people and destroying countries.
Furthermore, the Secretary of Fatwa explained that Shariah did not leave Takfir to one of the individuals in the Ummah, but it referred it to the ruler or those who represent him such as “Judges or Muftis” in the current era. Because they take into account witnesses and evidence. This matter cannot be left to a group or some individuals, otherwise anarchy reigns.
In the conclusion, he added that Takfir has adverse effects such as social disintegration, family breakdown, inciting hatred and intolerance among individuals of the society, and distorted image of Islam at home and abroad.
