Al-Azhar Graduates in Central Africa: Islam Calls for Love of the Nation and National Affiliation

The World Organization for Al-Azhar Graduates Branch in Central Africa delivered a lecture entitled “The Concept of Citizenship” in the capital city of Bangui. It is worth mentioning that this lecture, attended by 50 people, is part of the series of lectures delivered by the Branch in numerous prefectures of Central Africa to confront extremist ideologies, correct misconceptions and spread the moderate thought.

Shaykh Ahmad Broma Saeed, member of the Organization’s Branch, pointed that citizenship represents the political, social and religious status of individuals in a country as well as their rights. He also mentioned that in the Prophetic Age values of citizenship included love of the nation, loyalty, defending it during war and peace, maintaining its security and stability and confronting those who sow strife and division. In addition, he stressed that Islam calls for love of the nation and affiliating to it. In this regard, he urged the attendees to discard violence and favor nation’s interest over personal interests that cause wars and disputes. Finally, he called upon imams and preachers to be fully aware of tolerant Islamic principles that call for unity and discarding divisions.
