
Prof. Mohammad al-Mahrasawy, WOAG Vice-Chairman, visited the Faith Pavilion at COP28. Al-Mahrasawy was accompanied by a high-level delegation from al-Azhar including: Prof. Salama Dawood, President of al-Azhar University, Prof. Nazir Ayad, the Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy and Prof. Atta Kheder, Head of the Grand Imam’s Office.
The Faith Pavilion at COP 28 is organized by the Muslim Council of Elders in cooperation with COP28 Conference, UAE Ministry of Tolerance & Coexistence and UN Environment Programme, during 1-12 December 2023, at Expo City Dubai.
Al-Mahrasawy praised the pavilion and its activities, expressing his appreciation for the efforts exerted by the Muslim Council of Elders under the Leadership of Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, in engaging with the global issues and challenges and enhancing the role of religious leaders.
The Faith pavilion is the first of its kind to be organized during the Conference of the Parties. The pavilion held several events and activities and received representatives of 54 countries and more than 70 international institutions including universities, youth organizations, religious foundations besides a number of IGOs and NGOs. The pavilion offered numerous activities including 65 panel discussion with the participation of 325 speakers to discuss fostering the multi-cultural understanding concerning climate action.
