Al-Azhar Deputy Receives an Indonesian Delegation to Discuss Ways of Cooperation in the Education Field

Prof. Mohammad ad-Duwini, the Grand Imam’s Deputy, received, on Tuesday, an Indonesian delegation headed by Mr. Mohammad Zaim Nasution, the Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to Egypt. The meeting was attended by Dr. Nahla al-Seidy, the Grand Imam’s Advisor for International Students Affairs and President of The Center of Education Development for Envoys and Foreign Students, to discuss ways of cooperation in the educational field.

The Grand Imam’s Deputy stated that His Eminence, Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, is about to make a historical visit to Indonesia for the third time, during his Southeast Asia tour. This visit comes to emphasize the deep historical relations between Al-Azhar and Indonesia, especially that Indonesia is one of the largest countries that sends its students to study at al-Azhar. Indeed, the number of Indonesian students at al-Azhar exceeds 12 thousand students in the various educational field, besides, Indonesia is one of the most countries that receives scholarships for its students, which amounts 257 scholarships.

In the same vein, ad-Duwini explained that al-Azhar moderate enlightened approach is the secret for its survival and reception of thousands of students from more than 120 countries around the world. He stressed that al-Azhar international students and graduates have their marks in their countries, as they are the best ambassadors of al-Azhar. Ad-Duwini clarified that al-Azhar welcomes all kinds of cooperation that may serve the students and spread the true essence of Islam. On their part, the delegation expressed their gratitude for al-Azhar and the Grand Imam for the efforts exerted in serving Muslims and paying attention to the issues of the Islamic world. The delegation stressed that al-Azhar is one of the most important religious institutions in the world due to its possession of a moderate approach and leading scholars who spare no efforts to spread the message of Islam.
