The Grand Imam: We are Ready to Increase the Scholarship for Rwandan Muslims, Dedicating Half of Them to Study Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering & Agriculture
Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, received Mr. Dan Manbouda, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Cairo, on Tuesday at al-Azhar Sheikdom, to discuss ways of fostering joint cooperation.
During the visit, the Ambassador of Rwanda expressed his pleasure to meet with the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, as well as his appreciation for the efforts exerted by His Eminence to enhance the values of fraternity and peaceful coexistence. Additionally, the Rwandan Ambassador revealed his gratitude for the support al-Azhar offers to Rwanda, stressing his country’s strive to raise the level of cooperation and coordination with al-Azhar, via increasing the number of al-Azhar scholarships presented to Rwandan students, especially in the fields of applied sciences such as medicine, pharmacy, engineering and agriculture. The Rwandan Ambassador also asked the Grand Imam to increase the trainings offered to Rwandan imams at Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams, Preachers and Fatwa Researchers, as well as establishing Azhari institutes in Rwanda, to be the stepping-stone to establish a branch of al-Azhar University there.
On his part, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar stressed the strength of the relations between Egypt and Rwanda, emphasizing al-Azhar readiness to increase the number of al-Azhar envoys to Rwanda. His Eminence promised to increase the scholarships offered to Rwandan Muslims, which amounts 26 scholarships, annually, in a way that suits the Rwandan society and its internal challenges, allocating half of them for studying medicine, pharmacy, engineering and agriculture.
