“The Importance of Coexistence Fiqh in a Multi-Faith Society”… a lecture by Malaya University in Cooperation with al-Azhar Graduates in Malaysia

The University of Malaya, in cooperation with the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates’ branch in Malaysia, organized “Islamic Studies’ lectures Program” (Series 4).

The program witnessed the participation of about 400 participants, including students and faculty members in APIUM, members from the Mufti of Federal Territory’s Office in Kuala Lumpur and the public.  

The lecture was given by Prof. Gamal Farouq al-Daqaq, the Former Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, under the title of “The Importance of Coexistence Fiqh in a Multi-Faith Society” at AMAM, APIUM.

The lecture tackled the need for maintaining an understanding concerning the peaceful coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims from an Islamic perspective. In that concern, the lecturer stressed the necessity of establishing the principles of Islam regarding the relations between Muslims and non-Muslims, as Allah Almighty created human beings to get to know each other. He added that Islam emphasizes the duty of Muslims to be kind to non-Muslims, respect their rights and being just to them according to the laws of the Islamic Sahri’a, especially those who do not fight Muslims. He underlined that the core of understanding such relation rests on the value of mercy, as the main goal brought by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to the entire world.
