During the celebration of the glorious October victories, the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates was keen to host a number of prominent heroes of the glorious October War, who made sacrifices and heroic acts, especially during the war to liberate the precious land of Sinai and restore the dignity of the dear homeland. They recalled some of their memories and heroic acts so that young generations could learn about them. This took place during the Cultural Gathering entitled “The October War and Egyptian National Security in Light of Current Changes.” The gathering was attended by Prof. Abbas Shouman, President of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates and Secretary General of al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars, and Major General Wael Bekhit, Vice-President of the Organization. The Gathering hosted war heroes such as Major General Mohammad al-Amir, one of the heroes of the Missile Wall and the Operations Chief of one of the Missile Battalions in the War, Major General Hamdy Bekhit, Former Director of the Crisis Management Department in the Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Abdul Qader, one of the first to cross the Suez Canal in 1973 and Major General Hamdy Labeeb, a Strategic Expert.
The heroes of the glorious October War emphasized that the miracle of gaining victory over the enemy was divinely supported by Allah. This war gave us, as strategic war leaders, politicians, and people, a great lesson and an immortal experience in knowing and defining the elements of maintaining the national security of Egypt. This is for the benefit of securing the state entity and protecting its vital interests in the face of any threats or risks, whether internal or external, in a manner consistent with achieving the national goals of the state and preserving the safety and unity of its territories.
In addition, they pointed to the fact that the cohesion of the Egyptian people and their army achieved the glorious victory, with the solidarity of all segments of the people and their fusion within the Egyptian army. They also highlighted the role of state institutions and agencies in making this victory as well as the great role achieved by the state’s media in participating in the deception plan, activating national awareness, sharpening determination, and raising morale through the national will of every individual in the homeland and rejecting malicious rumors.
Moreover, they highlighted that one of the most important lessons learned from the 1973 war is achieving an important element of national will, which is realistic planning based on accurate information, along with how to overcome all complexities and the possibility of development. This is what young people should learn about how to reach their goals and achieve success, which only comes with diligence, patience, and proper planning.
At the end of the gathering, they emphasized that the spirit of October that made Egyptian soldiers conquer the impossible is the spirit we need today in facing challenges. With this spirit, we overcome difficulties and achieve a bright future for generations. The spirit of October is the symbol of strength and the guarantee of success in all fields of life and it is still deeply rooted in the souls of Egyptians. With solidarity and hard work, we achieve Egypt’s rightful place among nations.
For his part, Prof. Shouman thanked the guests and asked them to continue the journey of giving to rebuild awareness and consolidate this great memory in the souls of young people by writing and recording the events of the glorious October spirit, so that future generations can benefit from it.
At the end of the gathering, the October heroes were awarded the Organization’s shield in recognition of their special and unique heroism during this glorious epic.
