The Danger of Takfir: A Lecture by Al-Azhar Graduates Branch in Chad

As part of al-Azhar ash-Sharif’s directives to promote moderation, the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates in Chad organized an awareness campaign titled “Azhari Flashes. A Reading in the Book: The Good Saying” by His Eminence, the Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb. The campaign included a lecture entitled “The Danger of Takfir”, delivered in Arabic at the Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas Mosque in the capital, N’Djamena. The event was attended by approximately 50 participants, with Mukhtar Muhammad al-Nur, a member of the Organization’s Chad branch, serving as the lecturer.

He emphasized that Islam’s stance on Takfir, both in ancient and modern times, is unequivocal, with clear warnings against it in the Quran and Sunnah. He pointed out that the phenomenon of Takfir is a manifestation of extremism in religion and involves unjustly judging others. Furthermore, he stressed that Takfir has numerous serious consequences and causes significant harm to both individuals and society.

He also highlighted the role of al-Azhar ash-Sharif in promoting a moderate understanding of Islam, free from fanaticism and extremism.
