The World Organization for Al-Azhar Supports Al-Azhar Statement on Gaza

The Board of Directors of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates, during its meeting, supported the statement issued by al-Azhar in support of the Egyptian and Arab position on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, provided that the Palestinian people remain on their land. The board emphasized that no one has the right to force the Palestinian people to accept proposals that are not implementable, and that the entire world must respect the Palestinians’ right to live on their land and establish their independent state with al-Quds ash-Sharif as its capital.

The board members called on al-Azhar affiliates in various countries around the world to reject displacement plans targeting the erasure of the Palestinian cause, without regard for the sanctity of the homeland.

The board members also affirmed that Egypt’s position on the Palestinian issue is a historical, political and humanitarian commitment rooted in the constants of the Egyptian state, especially since any attempt to impose forced displacement effectively means eliminating any chances of reaching a just and comprehensive peace. It is worth noting that the meeting of the board of directors of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates was held under the Chairmanship of His Eminence Prof. Abbas Shouman, President of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates and Secretary General of al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars, and attended by Prof. Mohammad ad-Duwini, Deputy of al-Azhar, Prof. Salama Dawood, President of al-Azhar University and Vice-President of the Board, Prof. Nazir Ayyad, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Mr. Wael Bekhit, Vice-President of the Organization for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Prof. Abdul Dayyem Nosseir, Consultant of the Grand Imam and Secretary General of the Organization, Prof. Ibrahim al-Hudhud, Former President of al-Azhar University and Academic Advisor of the Organization, and Prof. Osama al-Abed, Head of the Religious Affairs Committee at the House of Representatives.
