Al-Azhar Graduates in Somalia Launch an Awareness Summer Program to Promote the Correct Understanding of Religion

The World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates branch in Somalia, Qardho office, held an awareness lecture themed “Intellectual Security: a Support for Stability and a Shield for Youth against Extremism”. The lecture came within the framework of the awareness summer programs launched by the branch to serve the society, guide the youth towards the correct understanding of religion and to promote moderate thinking. The lecture was given by Mohammad Abdullah al-Asqalani, Director of Yassin Hajj Othman Preparatory and Secondary Institute for Human Development.

The lecture focused on the importance of intellectual security as one of the vital pillars for attaining comprehensive security in communities. The lecture also stressed that the integrity of thought is the main foundation for preserving identity, unity and social stability.

The lecture also tackled the serious dangers of the extremist and deviated ideas, especially among the youth, and how to counter them via raising the awareness, promoting the correct religious learning and adhering to the Islamic moderate approach.

Further, the lecture underscored the crucial role of educational and religious institutions, particularly Al-Azhar ash-Sharif, in protecting minds, fostering dialogue and tolerance and combating deviant ideologies with sound reasoning, knowledge, and a correct understanding of religious texts.

The lecture witnessed a significant participation of the city’s youth and dignitaries, who engaged positively with the lecturer and expressed their gratitude for such meaningful initiatives.

The lecture was widely welcomed and well-received due to its profound content and realistic addressing of the issues affecting people’s lives and their intellectual and social security.

This event came as part of a series of activities taking place throughout summer, to raise the awareness, establish the Islamic tolerant values and to build a generation resilient against all forms of extremism and deviation.
