
His Eminence Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, traveled to Rome, Italy, on an official visit to take part in the global conference organized by the Sant’Egidio Community under the theme “Daring Peace.” The event will be attended by numerous world leaders and decision-makers, most notably His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Head of the Catholic Church; Italian President Sergio Mattarella; and Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium, alongside a distinguished group of religious figures and intellectuals from around the world.
The Grand Imam is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the opening session of the conference, in which he will emphasize the importance of achieving peace founded on justice, as well as the moral and humanitarian responsibility of religious leaders to strive toward ending wars and conflicts.
Furthermore, His Eminence the Grand Imam will also meet with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Head of the Vatican and the Catholic Church, as well as several prominent religious leaders and intellectuals participating in this global summit. They will discuss key contemporary issues in both religious and international arenas. The conference also seeks to amplify the collective voice of religions in calling for an end to the crises, wars, and conflicts afflicting the world today, foremost among them the ongoing aggression against Gaza and the West Bank. It also aims to reaffirm the importance of upholding the peace agreement hosted by the city of Sharm el-Sheikh as a vital step toward establishing security and stability in the region and the wider world.
