The Grand Imam to the Argentine Ambassador: The Palestinian People, Subjected to the Most Heinous Crimes, Deserve to Be Mourned and to Have Their Pain Acknowledged

The Grand Imam stated that he salutes the Argentine people, who have demonstrated solidarity with the innocent people of Gaza by holding protests to express their rejection of the unjust aggression to which they are being subjected. He added that he hopes countries and political systems will shoulder their responsibility in rejecting all forms of aggression worldwide. He warned that if the massacres committed against the Palestinian people are left unchecked, the contemporary world will face a deeply miserable future. Furthermore, he stressed that this is neither diplomatic nor political rhetoric, but rather the words of a man who lives in this world and reflects deeply on its future. A future that appears terrifying in the absence of genuine international intervention to reform current global policies.

Likewise, during his meeting with Ambassador Holger Federico, Argentina’s Ambassador to Cairo, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar added that he is deeply saddened and distressed by external interventions in the Middle East that seek to prevent the region from achieving stability. He expressed regret over the state of global political thinking, pointing to the chaos that has come to dominate international decision-making. He added, “Do the children, women, and elderly of Gaza not deserve—in this mad world and under its reckless policies—to be mourned and to have their pain acknowledged? Is it not time for the massacres and brutal crimes committed against thousands of these innocent people to be criminalized?”

For his part, the Argentine Ambassador expressed his pleasure at meeting the Grand Imam of al-Azhar and conveyed his country’s appreciation for al-Azhar’s role in promoting the values of world peace and human fraternity. He stressed that religion and faith are key pillars of peace for all humanity.
