Al-Azhar ash-Sharif condemns, in the strongest terms, the heinous terrorist crime committed by the Zionist occupation, targeting funeral mourners in al-Nuseirat Camp in the middle of the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the martyrdom of a number of innocent Palestinians and the wounding of others, in a flagrant violation of all divine laws and international and humanitarian laws and norms.
Al-Azhar affirms that targeting civilians as they mourn their martyrs embodies an unprecedented level of brutality, disregard, and violation of human sanctity and dignity, and reveals that recourse to the crime of killing has become a fixed approach in the occupation of Palestine and the elimination of its unarmed people, without the slightest regard for the sanctity of places of worship or the movement of worshippers and mourners.
Al-Azhar warns against the continuation of these crimes amid international silence, and amid an unprecedented state of complete inability to hold accountable those who transgress the principles of justice, ethics, international law, and humanitarian norms.
Al-Azhar ash-Sharif renews its call upon the international community, the Security Council, and all human rights and humanitarian institutions to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities, and to take urgent action to halt the aggression against the Gaza Strip and the ongoing crimes against humanity, to protect civilians, to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable, and to work toward ending the suffering of the Palestinian people, enabling them to attain their legitimate rights and establish their independent state with al-Quds ash-Sharif as its capital.
