The Grand Imam Condemns Murdering Three Monks in Johannesburg & Pays Condolences to Pope Tawadros II & the Victims’ Families

Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, strongly condemned the terrorist assault that targeted the Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church’s monastery of Saint Mark the Apostle and Saint Samuel the Confessor in Johannesburg, South Africa. The attack resulted in the death of three Coptic monks.

The Grand Imam stressed that assaulting the safe innocent souls in places of worship is a heinous terrorist action, and that the values of the laws urging peace and amity cannot be taken as justifications for killing and terrorism.

The Grand Imam presented the sincerest and deepest condolences to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, the Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church and the victims’ families, demanding to quickly identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
