Today, al-Azhar ash-Sharif celebrates the 1084th anniversary of the establishment of al-Azhar Mosque, which corresponds to the seventh of the holy month of Ramadan each year, with the presence of a constellation of senior scholars and leaders of al-Azhar ash-Sharif.
The celebration includes a diverse range of activities and events throughout the day, aimed at introducing the history of al-Azhar Mosque, its various academic and educational institutions, its prominent scholars and Sheikhs, as well as al-Azhar’s stances on the issues of the Ummah, both past and present. Additionally, there will be documentaries about al-Azhar and its history. At the end of the day, the mosque organizes a communal Iftar for the worshippers.
Moreover, al-Azhar Supreme Council, under the presidency of His Eminence Grand Imam Prof Ahmed at-Tayyeb, the Sheikh of al-Azhar ash-Sharif, decided in May 2018 to consider the occasion of the opening of al-Azhar Mosque on the seventh of Ramadan in the year 361 AH as an annual day to celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of al-Azhar Mosque.
