The World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates branch in Borno State, Nigeria, held a lecture titled “Islamic Civilization, Western Civilization, and the Lost Peace” at an-Noor al-Muhammadiyah Girls’ School in Maiduguri. Othman Saleh delivered the lecture and emphasized the Grand Imam’s view regarding how some contemporary civilizations have turned away from the guidance of religions and adopted conflict as a methodology.
He pointed out that scientific progress was supposed to contribute to correcting the image of Islam. However, some discourses continue to adopt a clash-based view, despite the evident tolerance and ease of Islam and how straightforward it is to understand its true nature, away from stereotypes. He also clarified that the concepts of the clash of civilizations are fundamentally flawed, explaining that the Islamic civilization is built upon sound religion, governance systems, knowledge, economics, and urban development, all within a framework of moderation and human integration.
