WOAG branch in Luxor published a video, on the official Facebook page, under the title of “Al-Wala’ wal-Bara’“. This video came within the activity carried out by the branch to confront the extremist ideology, correcting the misconceptions and spread the moderate way of thinking.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Omar al-Qady, member of WOAG branch in Sohag, said that the behavioral feature of al-Wala’ is advocacy and support, while the behavioral feature of al-Bara’ is hostility and disapproval. He stressed that the manifestations of Al-Wala’ wal-Bara’ appear when someone, who does not believe in your faith and identity, decides to oppress you and fight your country; hence, in such case, al-Wala’ requires supporting your homeland, people and national identity, while al-Bara’ means to absolve from such enemy who seeks to demolish your identity, security and homeland. Hence, the concept of “Al-Wala’ wal-Bara'” should be included whilst a Muslim coexists peacefully with others. Indeed, a Muslim should preserve his/her Islamic identity without violating the principle of peaceful coexistence, and to maintain the purity of his/her faith without practicing Takfir or assaulting the infallible souls; this is, truly, what is “Al-Wala’ wal-Bara'” means.
