The Secretary-General of the United Nations expresses gratitude to the Grand Imam of al-Azhar for his recognition with the Shield of Muslim Council of Elders
His Eminence the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Professor Ahmad at-Tayyeb, received a message from the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres, expressing his gratitude to His Eminence for welcoming him at al-Azhar and honoring him with the Shield of the Muslim Council of Elders during his visit to Egypt on March 24th.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations added in his message to His Eminence the Grand Imam: “Allow me to reiterate my appreciation for our meeting on that day and for our discussion on enhancing peace, understanding, and interfaith dialog. I would also like to thank you for your diligent efforts in promoting unity among different communities while advocating for tolerance and compassion.”
It is worth mentioning that His Eminence the Grand Imam received the Secretary-General of the United Nations last month at al-Azhar, commending his courageous stance in supporting the Palestinian cause and advocating for justice and human rights in Gaza. He also praised his clear warnings to the world about the dangers of this aggression and the significant efforts of the UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, in aiding refugees fleeing the fires of the aggression.
